Emergency Funding for COVID-19 Safety Measures in Forest Operations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA: Gerald Soroka, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, and Deputy Shadow Minister for Natural Resources (Forestry and Mining) is pleased to inform constituents that the government will be providing $30 million to offset the additional costs associated with COVID-19 safety measures for small and medium-sized enterprises in the forest sector, including tree planting operations.

This money will cover extra costs such as sanitizing stations, additional accommodations and/or transportation, facilities and services to maintain social distancing, and personal protective equipment.

The government intends to work with the provinces and territories to deliver this funding, which will preserve jobs for forest sector workers.
