FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OTTAWA: Gerald Soroka, Member of Parliament for Yellowhead, would like to thank everyone who responded to my post on Facebook and participated in the virtual town hall he co-hosted with Dane Lloyd, MP on the government’s firearms ban.
Many constituents raised concerns over the new gun regulations, which in many cases arbitrarily ban certain firearms and noted that this does little to combat illegal guns, most of which are smuggled in from the US.
MP Soroka stated, “Many police chiefs are coming out and saying that this ban is not going to do anything to combat gun crime. Unfortunately, the Liberals don’t want to listen to anyone whose views don’t fit their narrative.”
“The fact of the matter is that the vast majority of illegal guns are smuggled in from the US. These changes do nothing to address that. Once again, we have a case of the Liberals punishing honest, hard-working Canadians to make a symbolic gesture that does nothing to affect the underlying issue.”
“The money the government is spending on this, which could be up to a few billion dollars, would be better spent keeping guns out of the hands of criminals”.
